Against Me! April 2nd, 2004 in Birmingham, AL at Cave 9.
I have this Nikon FM2 that I would bring on tour. The shutter may fire once out of four tries. It took a tumble off of the roof of a car at one point, and light would get in because the camera would not seal correctly. Still, I would get the itch to shoot some film with it and I’d break it out while touring with Against Me!. In this case, I shot some Ilford 3200 BW. Grainy as hell, temperamental, but still fun to shoot with. This club was hot, sweaty, filled with energy, the seams ready to bust. There was occasionally a real risk factor in some of these old buildings that people turned into clubs. The old wooden floors with century old, weak, splintered beams would bend as the crowds jumped up and down. Balconies, like the one in this shot, were never meant to hold such weight, even when they were new. It really added to the excitement in the air. Those shows were very intimate and special.
